Power of choice.

The other day I left for Marsabit. I took off with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) flights. I am still yet to debrief. I was traumatized the whole way, guess I am so used to big planes, I had no idea what it meant to fly with a small plane.

When we arrived in Marsabit, I discovered with shock that my luggage had been left at MAF offices Nairobi. So what do to? This was a cool-hot Tuesday and the next flight back to Marsabit through MAF was going to be on Friday (my date of departure)

For a moment, while at the airstrip, I thought I have two choices
  •  To be miserable for the next 3 days and mourn over my clothes and stuff and just how impossible its going to be...or
  • To thank God for a safe flight and move on and get a plan B.
I choose option two. When my host asked me what to do, my answer was simple. Let’s move on. I will see what to do. We went ahead to have lunch, which I really enjoyed and to be honest I had so much peace, never worried about my luggage.
After my fill, I asked the driver to take me to a shop so that I can buy some clothes. Which I did. I had fun wearing Gabra/Borana clothes. Missed my jeans. My trip was great; I travelled to Moyale and had some lovely meals in Ethiopia and met great people. I think they thought i am on of them, but definitely also looked like an imposter!

(Can you spot me?- Well the only Gabra woman, working with the Gabra community- they are digging water pans as they wait for the next rainfall-story for another day)

Once again I learnt about the power of choice.

  1. Thank you for stopping by my blog - it has been a pleasure sharing the memories you've posted here. I, too, have flown in the huge planes and felt comfortable - and in a single engine where dodging birds was possible. Even had an opportunity to be at the controls - and prefer to have others do the piloting. Thank you for sharing experiences as well as Christ.
